What is Junior Achievement?

JA is a non-profit economic education organization that provides programs for young people in grades K-12.
Volunteers from local businesses and the community go into area classrooms to teach professionally designed programs and share their personal experience with students.  Our volunteers add a fresh perspective to the classroom, as the personal and interactive experience generates excitement, facilitates learning, and engages all types of students.

What’s in it for me?
  • Our programs are fun and directly correlate with state curriculum standards.Our volunteers add a fresh perspective to the classroom, as the personal and interactive experience generates excitement and facilitates learning.
  • Can add to your Individual Growth Plan (IGP) as non-instructional development
  • National Boards – helps fulfill your leadership and collaborator accomplishments.

What do I need to do?
  • Complete and return the class sign-up form
  • Meet with your volunteer at your school for an observation and planning meeting (optional).
  • Provide an enthusiastic and supportive classroom environment for the volunteer while remaining in the classroom at all times.
  • Provide feedback to the volunteer and Junior Achievement.

May I select my own volunteer for the Junior Achievement program?

Absolutely!  Many teachers have great success using friends, relatives, or parents as volunteers in their classroom.

How often will the volunteer visit my classroom?

The volunteer will teach the required number of lessons for the grade level of your students.
Elementary – 5 lessons
Middle School – 6 lessons
High School – 5-7 lessons

What materials will the volunteer use in my classroom?

Junior Achievement will provide all materials needed to volunteers.  This includes step-by-step lesson plans, student workbooks, activity materials, posters, and much more.

School Liaisons:
The role of the Junior Achievement School Liaison is to facilitate communication between the Junior Achievement office and the teachers and volunteers at your school.  This is a small responsibility, but one that is crucial to the success of the program.
