Junior Achievement of Western North Carolina had a great impact during the 2007-2008 school year. 4,471 Students impacted.
215 Classes impacted. In the classroom model, students are exposed to a hands-on, interactive curriculum taught by business volunteers from the local community. 32 Schools served. 6 School districts served, including Asheville City, Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Madison county schools, and the Qualla Boundary (Cherokee reservation). 320 Number of people attending the JA Business Ethics Luncheon in March 2008. About 110 high school students and 210 business leaders discussed current ethical issues in a roundtable format. Prior to the luncheon, students were led through an ethics training and were required to write topical essay on ethics. The keynote address was given by Pete McDaniel, senior writer at GolfDigest and co-author of "Training a Tiger" with the late Earl Woods. 61 Number of students impacted in the JA Job Shadow, a program that immerses middle and high school students in the world of work, where they can get first-hand information about workplace skills and career choices.It creates an atmosphere in which a young person can ask questions such as "Why did you choose this career?" and "What kind of education do you need for this job?" |
